Andrea's doctoral research project is entitled "Non-Discrimination: Full and Effective Participation and Inclusion in Society." In summary, it involves a critical analysis of the equality and non-discrimination provisions of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.
Andrea Broderick is a Ph.D. Candidate and Marie Curie Fellow in the Department of International and European Law at the Faculty of Law, Maastricht University. Her current research interests lie in the area of international and European human rights law and, in particular, in the area of disability law and policy. She is currently working under the framework of the DREAM (Disability Rights Expanding Accessible Markets) network of researchers. Andrea has previously worked as a legal officer in the area of banking law and as a trainee Solicitor in a general practice firm. Her interest in disability rights stems from a broader interest in issues of social justice. Her Master's thesis was entitled "An Analysis of the Adequacy of Irish Law and Policy for Older People with Disabilities: an International and European Perspective."
After completing the LL.M. offered by NUIG in the area of disability law and policy, Andrea undertook a research internship at NUIG, where she was involved in researching diverse issues such as mental health law, equality law and special education law and policy. Andrea is a also a member of the Free Legal Advice Clinic at the Centre for Disability Law and Policy (NUIG) and has worked as a volunteer at the Clinic in the past.
