Conference held on "Modern aspects of the special education and rehabilitation of persons with disabilities"

This year the Institute of Special Education and Rehabilitation celebrates anniversary “20 years from the beginning of the studies of special education and rehabilitation” and in that occasion wаs organized 4th International conference with the main topic “Modern aspects of the special education and rehabilitation of persons with disabilities”. The conference took place from 17 to 19 October 2013 in Ohrid, R. Macedonia.
The conference was attended by notable names from special education profession, representatives of the ministry of education, prominent researchers and practitioners, physicians, foreign delegations and numerous young educators and speech therapists.
October 17th, Thursday, was intended to open the conference and address the plenary lectures. Participants welcomed the head of the Institute of Special Education and Rehabilitation, prof. Dr. Zora Jachova and the word took the President of the Organizing Committee, Doc. Dr. Zoran Kitkanj.
“The Faculty of Philosophy always gave overwhelming support of the Institute od Special Education and Rehabilitation of every idea, planning and developing of activities, scientific development, modernization, organization of scientific meetings and conferences. Since its foundation, former Dean, Prof. Trajan Gocevski always was ahead of our every request, in particular the requirements that were key to the Institute to go in the right direction that were continuously delivered by Prof. Ljupcho Ajdinski, ideologue and one of the key people who founded the Institute for Special Education and Rehabilitation. The Faculty of Philosophy as each Institute, and the Institute of Special Education and Rehabilitation will provide full support in every field, especially for the education of students and the improvement of academic staff”- Part of the address of The Dean of Faculty of Philosophy in Skopje, prof. The representative from the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Macedonia, Head of the Department of Higher Education, Mr. Borche Aleksov welcomed attendees and opened the conference.
Plenary lectures had Prof. Dr. Ljupcho Ajdinski who talked about “The development and state of the system for rehabilitation of persons with disabilities in the Republic of Macedonia”. Dr. Zoran Kitkanj talked about “Juvenile delinquency problem in modern society - state, response and challenges”. Luk Zelderloo, general secretary of EASPD, through an internet live stream, presented presented the EASPD perspective on “Inclusive Learning: Challenges and possibilities”. Dr. Davis Pris talked about “The effect of implementing training for positive behavioral support for parents of children with autism and related behaviors problems” while prof. Dr. Risto Petrov presented to us “The treatment of people with intellectual disability and health consequences for employers”.
After the plenary lectures followed award certificates of appreciation by the Institute of Special Education and Rehabilitation for all teachers and assistants who contributed to the creation and development of special education and rehabilitation science. Certificates and gratitude was awarded by the head of the Institute of Special Education, prof. Dr. Zora Jachova. At the end came awarding four awards from the Foundation “Prof. Ljupcho Ajdinskiˮ. Award for young researcher received Irena Novacheska, and reward the best institution got Rehabilitation Centre for Children and Youth. For this year's award for best practitioner Valentina Dukovska won, and the prize for best user went to Vera Apostolovska.
The great interest to be part of this important international conference looking at the large number of submitted papers, the presence of a large number of foreign lecturers and participants. Total number of reported papers for this conference was 116, of which only one was rejected. Active participation had professors from the U.S., professors from England, a delegation of 6 professors and practitioners from Croatia and of course representatives from Serbia. Without doubt, a rich program provides a space to all of participants attended to the session to choose which would present and past would enrich their knowledge. Total 66 's presented papers will have the opportunity to be published in the Proceedings of the works for which efforts are made to be indexed in databases of Thomson Reuteurs.
The conference was officially closed on 19 October after the workshops.
