Lun, 04/02/2013 - Mar, 05/02/2013
A conference on vulnerable families and the possibilities of action of the EU will be organised by COFACE, the Confederation of Family Organisations in the European Union and ICA, the Irish Countrywomen’s Association, under the Irish Presidency, on February 4th and 5th 2013 in Dublin Castle.
The conference aims to debate and discuss questions regarding vulnerable families, and enrich as well as contribute to the successful implementation of the Irish Presidency’s Work Programme and emerging social priorities such as tackling unemployment and addressing its social consequences, child poverty or the implementation of effective policies to combat poverty and support vulnerable groups.
Furthermore, ithe conference aims to discuss viable and pragmatic solutions to make a chance in the lives of the most vulnerable. It is not easy to define what makes a family vulnerable, or at risk. In order to focus the conference, there have been chosen three dimensions of vulnerability, where there would be explore the causes, the current situation, and most importantly, what needs to be done in the immediate future to prevent further impoverishment and families and children living in unacceptable circumstances:
1. Vulnerability due to ill health, disability and care
2. Extreme vulnerability, families outside of the reach of services
3. Vulnerability due to joblessness and lack of skills.
The conference will gather a great number of experienced professionals, researchers, politicians and decision makers from all over Europe. The conference is supported by Ireland's Minister for Children and Youth Affairs Frances Fitzgerald.
The conference will consist of key-note speeches and workshops on the second day around the three topics mentioned above, as well as an Award ceremony and closing speeches.
As the conference will take place just two days before the EPSCO (Employment, Social Policy, Health and Consumer Affairs) Council meeting, the conference aims to close with a collection of proposals for the ministers to discuss at their meeting.
