Perfil de Stelios Charitakis

The doctoral research project of Stelios is entitled: The Challenges and the Consequences of the Implementation of Article 9 of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities for the EU, with a focus on Accessibility. In summary it entails an in depth analysis of the nature of the obligations of Article 9 UNCRPD on accessibility and an examination of how and to what extent the EU is competent to implement these obligations.
Stelios Charitakis is a Doctoral Candidate at the Law Faculty of Maastricht University. Stelios was engaged as a practicing lawyer in a Law Firm specializing in labour law. He has also worked as an Intern for the Hague Institute for the Internationalization of Law (Hiil). Stelios did his secondment for four months at the European Disability Forum, working on the European Accessibility Act. His principal area of interest lies in International Human Rights and European law with a focus on disability. He takes part in a Marie Curie Training Network for doctoral researchers and his doctoral research is entitled “The Challenges and Consequences of Implementation of the UN CRPD for the European Union, with a focus on accessibility”.
Stelios holds a Law Degree from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and a LLM degree in International Human Rights and Criminal Justice from the Faculty of Law of Utrecht University. He is a scholar at the Maastricht Centre of European Law (M-Cel) and a member of the Ius Commune Research School.
