The 2014 edition of the Zero Project Report focusing on accessibility was launched at the United Nations Office in Vienna last week in the presence of some 470 participants from all over the world.
The Zero Project monitors the implementation of the rights enshrined in the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities on the basis of social indicators. 20 Convention indicators on the implementation of the Convention and 12 accessibility indicators were included in the questionnaire filled in by experts from 132 countries.
In addition, the Zero Project collected innovative policies and practices that foster accessibility and inclusion of persons with disabilities. Out of 69 and 243 nominations respectively received in each category, experts selected 15 policies and 54 practices as aspiring examples of ensuring equal access for persons with disabilities.
Inclusion Europe’s European standards for making information easy to read and understand and the European easy-to-read logo feature among the selected innovative practices that help to improve access of persons with intellectual disabilities to information and were presented during last week’s conference in Vienna.
The Zero Project Report 2014 is the last report released by the Zero Project which aimed to create platforms for developing models and sharing experiences which would enable people with disabilities to enjoy fundamental rights in their daily lives.
