Fri, 30/11/2012
On November 30th 2012 a conference of the FIESTA network (Facilitating Inclusive Education and Supporting the Transition Agenda) will be held in Katerini, Greece. The FIESTA project, part of the EU Comenius programme, aims at developing a multi-disciplinary learning approach for professionals in education, health and social frameworks in order to facilitate children with special needs during their transition from special schools to mainstream environments as well as from pre-school to primary school and from primary school to secondary school.
The FIESTA project is a joint initiative between organizations from Ireland, United Kingdom, Romania, Cypress, Finland, Ireland, Netherlands and Spain (Period: 01 November 2011 – 31 October 2014). The organised conference will focus on understanding and managing periods of transition for children with additional educational needs. Among the conference speakers will be Professor Pat Dolan, who holds the prestigious UNESCO Chair in Children, Youth and Civic Engagement and who is the Director of the Child and Family Research Centre at the National University of Ireland.
During the conference, the members of the FIESTA network will present the current state of play across Europe in the field of inclusive education, transition and collaborative working. The University of Edinburgh will give a presentation of associated research findings which will include a literature review of 9 EU Member States interpretations and models of (1) inclusive education (2) transition and (3) collaborative working. This conference will furthermore showcase results of the fieldwork carried out in partner countries with targeted stakeholders and experts.
Participants of the conference will have the opportunity to engage in one of the 3 conference workshops (Disability awareness and inclusion, collaborative working, mentoring and learning supports). The outcomes of the workshops provided by participants will be the basis for the development of a ‘Managing Transition E-learning Module’ as part of the Network development. The whole conference will be a good opportunity to network, to exchange information and good practices as well as to learn from other experts and professionals in the field of special education.
