Europe in Action 2014 Conference ‘Growing up with an intellectual disability’

Inclusion Europe together with Mencap in Northern Ireland opened the registration for the annual conference of Inclusion Europe which will take place on 15-17 May in Belfast. People with intellectual disabilities, family members, professionals and policy makers are invited to contribute to discussion on empowering people with intellectual disabilities and their families from early stage of life.
The conference entitled ‘Growing up with an intellectual disability’ will explore the impact of intellectual disability on the lives of individuals and families; the approaches which make a difference and help transform their lives; and what it takes to build inclusive and welcoming communities. It aims to propose effective policies and practices to improve the quality of lives of people with intellectual disabilities and their families.
The conference will consider 3 perspectives:
‘About me’ will focus on the growing child or young person with themes including early intervention, education, identity, advocacy, and becoming independent.
‘About us’ will be about family life, playing and learning together, strengthening families, how families support decision-making, healthy family relationships, and stories about the superheroes in our lives.
‘About you’ will focus on community life, themes like the best start in life, me and my neighbourhood, or building inclusive and welcoming communities.
