Profile of Shivaun Quinlivan


Shivaun Quinlivan is a graduate of NUI, Galway, King’s College London and The Honourable Society of King’s Inns. Shivaun is currently undertaking a PhD in Trinity College Dublin; her research addresses the efficacy of public interest litigation in the context of the right to education for children with disabilities. Shivaun has been a lecturer at the School of Law, NUI Galway since September 2000 where she teaches primarily in the area of Constitutional Law and Disability Law and Policy.
Shivaun’s research interests focus on the rights of people with disabilities, with a particular focus on education and employment. In that capacity Shivaun has worked with and for a range of statutory and other agencies in Ireland and Europe: including the Equality Authority, the National Council for Special Education, the Association of Higher Education Access and Disability, the Health Service Executive as well as working on a number of European Commission funded projects.
Guided by both her practical and academic knowledge in this area Shivaun has developed, on her own and in conjunction with colleagues a number of new courses over her time in the School of Law including Education Law and Policy and Disability Law: Contemporary Law Reform Challenges in the National and International Sphere. This experience has ensured that Shivaun was appointed as the Director of the new LL.M. in International and Comparative Disability Law and Policy that will commence in September 2011.
